I'm so thrilled Rebecca Blackwell found you and restacked your post. This was a delightful read this morning. Perfect for coffee on the porch and pondering what's important as we plan our move into a new place.

Kalee - I'm so glad it resonated! And coffee and the porch seem simply perfect for pondering. (whew, moving is such a chore and also that breath of fresh air...if you can move slowly enough to not jumble everything in the boxes and think I'll shift it out later.) Take care!

Happy to have found you Tina! This post is beautiful. I especially love the part where you say, "And as always, there’s the balance of seeking a better fit and being happy with what you have. We can hold both…at the same time." - So true. I used to sew and quilt all the time and I loved it so much! We moved into an RV 6 years ago and I took my sewing machine with me, tucking it into precious storage space underneath our bed. I knew our new nomadic life wasn't compatible with sewing, but I wasn't ready to accept it. So, we carted the machine around for the first few years until I finally gave it a new home. The retreat on Mackinac sounds delightful. We are hoping to sail to Mackinac later this summer!

Rebecca! What a joy to stumble upon this message! Thank you.

Over a decade ago, my then-husband and I traveled out west for 3 months (tent camping) and I took several hand-sewing projects along, thinking I would be sewing by the campfire more nights than not...and I started this reply with just that suggestion on my lips...but then I remembered I did not, in fact, sew a thing on that trip.

So, yeah. I get that. And while there's an itchy part of me that still wants to recommend picking up hand sewing, it's so valuable to listen to the rhythm of the time we're currently in. And I can imagine your creative energy is on fire with the work you're doing!

When I gave up the sewing machine, I took up knitting... and so far I have only knitted one scarf. BUT, I have a basket of yarn just sitting there waiting for me and it feels comforting to know it's there even if I'm not able to get to it for a while. I love how you phrased it: "It's so valuable to listen to the rhythm of the time we're currently in." I feel that in my bones.
