What if it could be easy?
Embracing Yule, winter, and the possibility that life can be easy and deep.
I love winter. An often unpopular opinion, to be sure. I love the crisp air and the glorious way the fleeting sun sparkles on the snow. I love bundling up in all the wooly, furry layers and walking with my breath trotting on before me.
I love the crackling fire in the woodstove and the promise of adventure or inspiration that my stacks (and stacks) of books hold.
I love the joy of brewing a pot of tea to keep me company as I work at the computer, along with the beeswax candle that I light just because I can.
I love watching the weather for the perfect opportunity to don the cross country skis and go for a run. There’s so much presence required in adoring a thing that requires just the right conditions.
I love the post holiday exhale as much as I love the holiday glee and excitment, although truth be told, I overdid it this year. And in that exhale I get the opportunity to assess what was full of ease and where my stress came from…and make note for next time.
Because it’s that finessing and honoring what brings you joy and peace that brings it into being. It won’t just occur by happenstance. You have to let it.
I’m easing into the new year, in mindset at least, the to-do’s are piling up, but I’m taking a long honest look at all these to do’s set in early, exciteded December for a fresh new year and asking myself, what really needs to be done..right now…and how could it be easy?
It’s Yule after all. The time for setting in. For embracing the rest and the dark with cozy, quiet energy. In the words of Kate Northrup, the fertile void. Those moments when we pull in our resources, send them to our roots and consider what’s working and what’s not.
We’re creatures of nature and I find that when I embrace the seasons and the cycles of nature and my own body, life is inheritantly full of more magic and more ease.
And thus, I’m looking at that too ambitious to-do list and determining what would make my goals and dreams easy….and fun.
I’m a life-long list maker and planner…and if you are with me in that, you know that sometimes those lists and plans shift from being shining lights to weighty burdens.
I’m seeking out that magical spot where my plans still feel expansive and exciting and the execution feels fun and ease-filled, not burdensome.
What would ease look like? How can I make this easy?
To be clear, I don’t mean to make it not challenging or to take out the extra sparkle, but to not do it the hard way, or with uneccesary extras. To cull it down to what feels best and commit to doing that with ease and joy and with so much presence!
Whether that’s a gardening plan, a house renovation, an online workshop or a live, virtual show. How can I make it ease-filled? How can I bring it down to it’s simpliest best.
I find that it requires letting go and pouring into what feels best. One focus at a time.
Afterall, I get to decide how I experience this act of living, and sparkle, depth and ease are just what I ordered!
Speaking of sparkle and depth!
